EQUINOR

Aligning global business' impact strategy with local country needs

Context

Equinor supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and shares the view that business has a key role to play in their implementation -- both minimising negative impacts as well as contributing positively and transparently to these goals in the different countries in which it operates.

Equinor is among a group Nordic-based CEOs, which in 2018 announced a joint initiative to speed up the realisation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our work

Earth Security Group worked with Equinor in a process to identify global SDGs where the business can have the greatest impact, as well as pilot ESG's dashboard methodology to define strategic areas at the country level.

Our collaboration focused on two areas:

  • The definition of SDGs where the company's actions can have the greatest impact; considering issues that are important to the business, as well as those in which its unique vision, mission and values create significant opportunities for SDG alignment and impact. These are outlined in Equinor's 2018 Sustainability Report
  • Using ESG's Global Dashboard to identify unique country-level priorities where the company is strategically positioned to have a long-term impact, as well as impact models that can enable the company to have business-driven contribution to a country's development.

”Equinor’s actions are inspired and guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Diversity and inclusion, as well as climate solutions are at the core of our priorities and the SDG principle of 'leaving no one behind'."
